cultural setting, submissive women, and blasphemy.

Normally I would spew out opinion after opinion here – I’m an opinionated lady, but for this touchy subject, I only wish to present why I’m even posting about it. There’s been a lot of talk lately about women in ministry and women pastoring and what’s appropriate for women, etc etc in my life and I’d like to share what I’ve been learning from the Word of God. Not from other people, and not even in my own words. Just from the Word.
I’d only like to add that I’ve been told time and time again in many-a-conversation that some of these scriptures are written to the society of that time, but upon reading all of these together, I’m starting to doubt that they were intended just to target that particular culture. Too many words like “all” and “blasphemy” for me to believe it was just based on that particular culture. Anyway – there I go with my opinion. Let me know what you think.

“For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, the women are to keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.”
1 Corinthians 14:33-35

“But every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. For it a wife will not cover her head then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but a woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God. Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman wears long hair it is her glory? For her hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.”
1 Corinthians 11:5-16 ESV

“But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.”
1 Corinthians 11:3

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slave to much wine, teacher of good things – that they admonish (train) the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet (self-controlled), chaste (pure), homemakers, good (kind), obedient (submissive) to their own husbands, that the Word of God may not be blasphemed (reviled/maligned).”
Titus 2:3-5 NKJ (ESV/NIV)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
John 1:1 ESV

“And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”
Luke 12:10 ESV

“But whoever blasphemes against het Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin…”
Mark 3:29 ESV

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of god may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”
Romans 15:4
