a break from the highlight reel and a strand of 3 cords that can’t be broken.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)

Break from the highlight reel, y’all. Marriage is not simply love and romance and happily ever after. I know you probably know that, but it’s not even happiness sometimes.

There are days and season of real excitement that are amazing, and you can fall in love all over again. But then there are days when you want to put each other in the ground (that’s an exaggeration, of course, but you might just want to get away from them).

And then… To make a hard situation worse, as God’s chosen institution to showcase the relationship of Christ and the Christ, there are COUNTLESS things that will come against you to make marriage even harder and will try to tear you apart. Circumstances will try to make you fight, pull you away from God and each other, and cause you to resent each other.

But a strand of 3 chords is not easily broken, and God really will be the glue that holds your marriage together.

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬ NLT)

He’ll remind you of your covenant and commitment, and what it means to Him. He’ll remind you of your responsibilities to each other, and then take the weight of them from you and do these things that you thought you could not do through you.

And these trials you’re facing? Pure joy, the bible says. Consider them JOY! Because it’s though this mess that you’ll be made stronger, your faith will be perfected, and so will your marriage.

This is just something I’m learning in real life right now and I know that social media has the tendency to only showcase the good. But I don’t want to put out there that everything is perfect.

It’s not perfect. But we have this God who loves us and is faithful to see us through every trial of this life and He’s good.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ NLT)
