Hi again! 16 days into #samjyogaadvent. Wow. ☺️
Today’s theme is BE.
I’m a person who suffers from anxiety and OCD, so there are countless things in my mind to fear. And after a number of years this way, I’ve adapted to living afraid most of the time.
Most of what I’m concerned about isn’t real, so I practice rooting myself in reality regularly. When it gets really bad, one of the things that grounds me the most being held by someone that makes me feel safe. The physical touch, already trusted, offers security, and allows me to focus my mind on simple things: my breath, his breath, the weight of arms rested around me, the textures of blankets or my clothing, etc.
Focusing on these things allows me BE in my skin and BE in the present and BE in reality.
The first time I experienced this with Jesus was during a worship set at my old church’s youth group. They were singing ‘The More I Seek You’ by Kari Job. If you’re not familiar, here are the relevant lyrics:
I wanna sit at your feet
Drink from the cup in your hand.
Lay back against you and breath, feel your heart beat
This love is so deep, it’s more than I can stand.
I melt in your peace, it’s overwhelming
The imagery here strikes me and brings me back to reality. It reminds me that just being with the Lord, being in touch with his heart, and covered in His love does the same thing. It brings us out of whatever we’re caught up in in our minds and back to the reality that we are His beloved, and can rest secure cradled in His care.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27 NIV)
