return to Me.

So you, by the help of your God, return,

hold fast to love and justice,

and wait continually for your God. (Hosea 12:6 ESV)

I’ve been reading through a bible study on Hosea and it’s proved to be exactly what I need (not even aside from the obvious).

I picked the Hosea study because I am a Gomer. I didn’t return to my Hosea, but to be fair, apart from the having an adulterous wife, I don’t see many parallels between Gomer’s Hosea and mine.

But I did, I do, return to my God.

It’s been hard reading about Israel’s rebellion, and the consequences they endured because of it. I feel like sometimes God’s silence is my consequence, but then I realize I know better than that because, for one, nothing separates from the love of God, and two, my very access to the Word and my ability to learn from it proves He is never truly silent.

He’s just quiet, speaking in whispers, beckoning my rampant, chaotic, loud heart to be still and hush my mind to hear Him. He’s waiting for me in the dark, quiet places, that maybe, if I’m honest, I don’t always want to go.

But returning to Him requires following Him and seeking Him. So, off I go.
